Sporty catering

Charity bike tour at Merode Castle

At this year's charity bike ride 'The Big Ride for Africa', we once again provided top-notch catering for the more than 500 participants and the organising team. At the event held at Merode Castle in Langerwehe-Merode, the participants gave their all and cycled up to 320 kilometres in two days - so balanced, nutritious and, of course, enjoyable catering was particularly important.

A great deal of flexibility was required when organising the catering. For the duration of the event, the participants stayed in a temporary tent city on the grounds of Merode Castle. The stately castle, with its manicured grounds, provided the perfect setting for the culinary part of the event. In the style of an English garden party, meals were also served in tents.

In the mornings, athletes could prepare for the day's exertions with a variety of egg dishes, pancakes, healthy spreads and plenty of fruit and vegetables at the varied breakfast buffets. At lunchtime, there was a choice of light lunches, packed lunches or the opportunity to get the vitamins and carbohydrates they needed in the form of pasta and salad at mobile pit stops along the way. The special challenge was that there was no water or electricity on site - but we overcame that too!
